Design and validation of a simulation model of single phase asynchronous machine

Résumé traduit

The single phase asynchronous machine motor is widely used in many light duty applications. It is mostly used in domestic applications for small horsepower. Among the available simulation software, SimPowerSystems (SPS) is one of the most powerful and widely accepted for the simulation of power systems and drives. It is developed in the graphical Simulink environment of the popular general purpose Matlab software. The SPS inherits a number of powerful and versatile analysis and graphical tools.

This report describes the development of a simulation model of the single phase asynchronous machine. The electrical and mechanical parts machine are represented by a set of constant differential equations. These equations are translated to Simulink block-diagrams. The model accepts parameters in S.I. or p.u. units and allows simulation of single phase machine in various operation modes: the split-phase, the capacitor-start and the capacitor-start- capacitor-run operation modes. The model is implemented in SPS software's library of electrical machines.

The magnitude of torque oscillation is higher in split-phase operation mode. The torque pulsation affects the operation of the machine by producing shaft's vibrations. The run capacitor is permanently connected in series with the auxiliary winding and sized to mitigate torque pulsation at a single operating point, sacrificing performance at other speeds.

A drive for reducing torque pulsation, regardless of the operating point, is presented using variable auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle control. The torque ripple is mitigated for loads at any speed. A theoretical study of the drive is based on the double revolving field theory. The drive eliminates the capacitor and centrifugal switch, where installed, and increases the performance and reliability of the machine.

The single phase asynchronous machine's speed can be regulated with the rotor flux oriented control. A computer model is developed to carry out the analysis. Simulation results show that the drive can be used for speed control.
